Las dos obras presentes en la exposición en el ECCO. Espacio de Cultura Contemporánea de Cádiz, EUROPA y Extinción (Timber!) pertenecen a un territorio en el que la geografía deja de ser una superficie neutra y la política deja de ser un relato exterior: ambas se vuelven materia sensible, casi táctil, y al mismo tiempo espectral. Como si el continente, esa palabra tan cargada de ideal y de culpa, se presentara no como un mapa estable, sino como un estado de la mente . Y, a la vez, como un peligro. Ambos trabajos se anudan en un punto común: la sospecha de que la “representación” no describe, sino que produce mundo. El mapa no solo orienta: organiza el deseo, delimita lo pensable, marca rutas y borra otras. La fotografía de prensa no solo informa: fabrica rostros-poder, escenifica acuerdos y tensiones, normaliza lo excepcional. En ese sentido, EUROPA y Extinción (Timber!) se comportan como dos laboratorios: uno investiga la promesa (el viaje, la cultura, la mitificación de los destinos); el otro investiga la amenaza (la deriva populista, la combustión simbólica, la guerra como guion recurrente). En conjunto, funcionan como una doble exposición: la del continente soñado y la del continente ardiendo.

The two works included in the exhibition at ECCO. Espacio de Cultura Contemporánea de Cádiz, EUROPA and Extinción (Timber!) belong to a territory where geography ceases to be a neutral surface and politics ceases to be an external narrative: both become sensitive, almost tactile matter, and at the same time spectral. As if the continent, that word so laden with ideals and guilt, were to appear not as a stable map, but as a state of mind. And, at the same time, as a danger. Both works are tied together at a common point: the suspicion that “representation” does not describe the world, but produces it. The map does not only orient: it organizes desire, delimits what can be thought, marks certain routes and erases others. Press photography does not only inform: it manufactures faces-as-power, stages agreements and tensions, normalizes the exceptional. In that sense, EUROPA and Extinción (Timber!) behave like two laboratories: one investigates the promise (travel, culture, the mythification of destinations); the other investigates the threat (populist drift, symbolic combustion, war as a recurring script). Together, they function as a double exposure: that of the dreamed continent and that of the burning continent.
