Me agrada estar rodeado de gente, desorden, cultura, ruido y emoción. Caminar por Nueva York presenta una gran cantidad de posibilidades: Tal vez te encuentres con tu amigo de la infancia, con quien no has tenido contacto en veintiséis años; tal vez te encuentres con una pelea de almohadas organizada, que llena Union Square y que compartas en los periódicos al día siguiente; tal vez pruebes un helado de aguacate. (Todas estas cosas me han pasado recientemente) Me encanta Nueva York.

Hay algo que no hay en todas partes, cada lugar es un solo lugar, lo que me entusiasma un día es por lo mismo que me enfada al día siguiente y así sucesivamente. Hay algo gratificante en los libros y en la experiencia de curiosear en la infinita librería de Barns & Nobel de Union Square. Todas esas cuidadas portadas y estanterías que te llevan de un mundo a otro y que en la sucesión de pasillos casi iguales y diferentes se convierte en una experiencia interminable. Al final, un lugar es siempre, sobre todo, un grupo de personas.

I enjoy being surrounded by people, clutter, culture, noise and excitement. Walking around New York presents a myriad of possibilities: maybe you’ll run into your childhood friend with whom you haven’t had contact in twenty-six years; maybe you’ll encounter an organised pillow fight that fills Union Square and you’ll share in the papers the next day; maybe you’ll taste avocado ice cream. (All of these things have happened to me recently.) I love New York.

There is something that is not everywhere, every place is a single place, what excites me one day is the same thing that angers me the next and so on. There is something rewarding about books and the experience of browsing in the endless bookshop of Barns & Nobel in Union Square. All those neat covers and shelves that take you from one world to another and in the succession of almost identical and different aisles it becomes an endless experience. In the end, a place is always, above all, a group of people.
